Handwriting

I review medical charts on a regular basis as part of my job. Many private offices still use handwritten charts. It is totally acceptable. However, what is not acceptable is illegible handwriting. A recent study showed more than 15% of all words written were illegible. This can result in mistakes in medication, tests ordered and incorrect diagnoses. In other words, this could impact on the quality of your patient care. Additionally, a jury could equate chaotic handwriting with chaotic patient care. Often, during a deposition, a physician cannot even read his or her own handwriting! How does that look? Consider printing if you cannot improve your handwriting.
