CPT Codes Suggested by Medical Device Salespeople

Beware of sales people attempting to sell you a new and improved machine that will miraculously double your income. Do NOT take as gospel the CPT codes they “suggest” you use. Often, they will show you examples of how well their clients did billing under these codes. YOU are responsible for the CPT codes and bills that go out under your name. It is no excuse that the sales person told you to use a particular code. Your certified coder or coding service should do the research and see if the code recommended is suitable. Of course, the first thing is always is the test or treatment by this new machine medically indicated and is it medically necessary. Your patient chart should have the level of documentation necessary to justify the use of the test or treatment as well as the results.
