Please note that when the OSHA regulations mention “blood”, it is referring to human blood or human blood products. “Other infectious materials” (OIM) refers to body fluids that could be contaminated by blood. Healthcare providers should know that purulence, and human tissue that was biopsied, is considered OIM.
